Happy Homes

Adopted Shelties - 2012

See our shelties who have been lovingly adopted into "forever homes" in 2012.

Reina - What's the size of a 10 pound bag of sugar and just as sweet?  Meet Reina, a 3-4 year old bi-black female looking for her forever home.  Reina is heartworm negative and current on all of her shots.  Reina is also heartworm negative and is on heartworm preventative.  Her coat is a little burnt and was covered in burrs from the time she spent near a construction site.  She was living with feral cats until she was caught and brought to safety with Austin Sheltie Rescue.  In a few months, her coat should be shiny black.  She stands about 11 inches tall and weighs 11 pounds.  Reina is a little skittish of new situations and prefers to come up to people only once they have settled into a quiet sit position.  She is house trained and has a lovely quiet demeanor although she will voice her opinion if she feels it is necessary.  We're still learning more about this little love bug but expect that she can settle into most situations, including those with cats, very easily.

Adopted November 2012.

Sara - Sara was a stray picked up wandering lost at a local church. She is a 2 year old sable with a little white on her toes, tip of her tail and skirt. When she came in to rescue she was covered in burrs and was a little matted, but she is now much more comfortable after a bath and good brushing. Sara is now up to date on all her vaccinations, has been spayed, and tested negative for heartworms but she does have hookworms, the hookworms will be quickly treated. Sara is a friendly, happy little girl, about 15 inches tall and just the right weight at 31 pounds. She rides well in the car, may know some tricks, walks beautifully on a leash and seems to get along great with everyone. More information as we get to know her.

Adopted September 2012.

Callie - Callie was originally adopted in 2007 but has come back into the program. When she came back into the program she was down to 19 pounds due to some sensitive stomach issues. With a change of diet she has gained several pounds and is feeling better. Callie is about 6 years old and is spayed. She is also up to date on all vaccinations, and is on heartworm preventative. Callie loves human attention and will roll over for tummy rubs. She loves rawhide chewies and plays well with larger dogs. Callie is housebroken and sleeps where ever she wants to - but always on a rug. Callie recently went to an event at an outdoor restaurant along with several other shelties and she had a great time getting pets and tons of attention.

UPDATE:  Callie has gained about 7 pounds - she now weighs 26 lbs. Her stomach issues are mostly gone and she is a very happy sheltie. She adores the resident shelties, runs with them everywhere and always joins in on their barking. Callie has become much more affectionate with people also. Several times an evening she comes over to the foster parents to be petted and get tummy rubs, and if she doesn’t get enough…she paws for more. Her favorite place is flat on the kitchen tile in front of a small fan in the summer.

Adopted September 2012.

Simone -Simone recently came back into our program after the passing of her companion and master of the last 4 years.  Simone is 10 years old and is well-behaved.  She is a sable merle, with a little blue in her brown eye and a little brown in her blue eye.  She is up to date on all vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative.  Simone weighs 31 pounds and stands 18 inches tall.  She has excellent house manners, walks beautifully on a leash, gets along well with other dogs, cats and children, and is a beautiful companion.  Simone bonds quickly with her human and loves to go everywhere she can, she loves car rides and long walks and is very obedient.  Simone is very much a lady.

Adopted September 2012.

Louie – Louie is a 2 year old blue merle that was surrendered to the local shelter.  Louie is 16 inches tall and weighs 49 pounds.  He is up to date on all vaccinations and neutered, but poor fellow was not given heartworm prevention and is high heartworm positive.  He will be starting treatment and should be available for adoption in early August.  Louie is very laid back and calm.  He gets along well with other dogs and is housetrained.

Adopted September 2012.

Ninja (was Shade/Hermes)- This is Shade, he just came to us from a local shelter where he was picked up as a stray. Shade is a 7 to 8 year old tri-colored sheltie. He stands about 14 inches tall and weighs 24 pounds. He is up to date on all vaccinations, is heartworm negative and is on heartworm preventative. When Shade came in to rescue he was a little nervous but quickly started settling in at his foster home. Shade has been neutered, recently had a dental and had a benign growth removed from his eyelid. Shade gets along well with other dogs, walks well on a leash and is house trained. His coat is burnt and dry but with good nutrition and lots of inside time it will come back thick and black. Shade has a little secret….he doesn’t have a tail, he claims he has never had one and really doesn’t see the use of one.

Adopted August 2012.

BG - BG is a 3-year old tri-colored sheltie who was an owner surrender.  She is a tiny girl and stands appx 11 inches tall and weighs appx 10 pounds.  She is now up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, on heartworm preventative.  She is a healthy girl and was recently spayed.

BG is a shy little girl and very nervous in new surroundings.  However, with time, she warms up to you and becomes a snuggler.  She gets along well with the resident dogs in her foster home.  She is housebroken and has good basic house manners.

Adopted August 2012.

Rivkie Rivkie came to us as an owner surrender because of a death in the family.  She is a beautiful 3 year old Border Collie with very soulful brown eyes.  She stands 17 inches tall and weighs 30 pounds.  She is up to date on all of her vaccinations and has been spayed.  Sad but true, Rivkie is heartworm positive and will have to go thru heartworm treatment.  Before she came to rescue Rivkie spent most of her time in the backyard and now she is loving being inside with her foster family and all of the other dogs.  She is learning how to walk on a leash and she loves to take long walks.  She appears to be housetrained and when given a chance she likes to lay in her crate and watch everyone else.  Rivkie is being treated for hookworms and whipworms.

Adopted July 2012.

ClareBear - ClareBear is a 6-year old sable and white female sheltie who was an owner surrender. She stands appx 15 inches tall and weighs appx 20 pounds. She is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, is heartworm negative, and on heartworm preventative.

ClareBear is a sweet girl who enjoys playing with toys. She also enjoys going on walks and walks very well on a leash. She is housebroken and has good basic house manners.

ClareBear was an owner surrender because she was a bit too playful with the small children in her home. So, she would do best in a home with older children as she tends to get excited.

Adopted July 2012.

Jake 2 – Jake: Jake is a 4-year old sable male sheltie who stands appx 18 inches tall and weighs appx 53 pounds. He is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, is heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative. He is a healthy boy and is not on any type of special medication. His coat was recently shaved; however, he will have a gorgeous coat when it grows back.

Jake is housebroken and has very good house manners. He has a wonderful personality and is a very sweet, friendly and sociable boy. He gets along well with other dogs. There are several cats in his home and he gets along fine with them. He is also good with children. He is an energetic boy and he enjoys playing with his toys and he loves to chase the squirrels in his back yard.

He rides well in the car and enjoys going on car rides. He is a smart boy and knows some basic commands like sit, lay down, etc. Before Jake came to his current home, he was an abused dog. However, he has come a long way in 4 years and has learned that it is ok to trust and love humans. He likes to follow his human companions around the house and sleeps in the bedroom on the floor, usually at the foot of the bed.

Adopted July 2012.

Olive (was Bambi) -  Olive is a female sheltie that came to us from a local shelter.  She's a year old, up to date on all of her vaccinations, spayed, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative.  Olive is 11 inches tall and weighs around 14 pounds.  Olive was originally called Bambi because she reminded her rescuer of a little fawn, prancing around delicately.  She gets along well with other dogs, likes to play with toys and is learning to play fetch.

Adopted July 2012.

Muffin - Muffin is eleven years old and has a little difficulty hearing. Muffin is now up to date on all vaccinations, spayed, heartworm negative, and on heartworm preventative. Muffin has spent a good bit of time in the outside and when she came in to rescue she was covered in fleas and flea bites. We’ve gotten rid of the fleas and now well help her heal from all of the flea bites. Muffin is 14 inches tall and is a tad overweight at 29 pounds. She also has a low thyroid and is currently on the small, inexpensive medication to keep her thyroid levels where they should be. Muffin gets along well with everyone and loves attention.

Adopted July 2012.

Shadow – Shadow: Shadow is a 4-year old sable male sheltie who stands appx 16 inches tall and weighs appx 46 pounds. He is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, is heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative. He is a healthy boy and is not on any type of special medication. His coat was recently shaved; however, he will have a gorgeous coat when it grows back.

Shadow is housebroken and has good basic house manners. However, occasionally he is inquisitive will check out things.....i.e. like what is in the trash can, etc. He has a wonderful personality and is a very sweet, friendly and sociable boy. He gets along well with other dogs. There are several cats in his home and he gets along fine with them. He is also good with children.

He is an energetic boy and some of his favorite things are to play chase with balls, guard his backyard from all things that move, and go on walks. He also enjoys going on car rides. He is a smart boy and knows some basic commands like sit, lay down, etc.

Shadow is an extremely affectionate dog and his most favorite thing is to be with his human companions. In fact, his love and dedication for his human companions make him a very special dog. His name reflects the fact that he has to be where his human companions are and he sleeps on the floor right next to the bed. Shadow needs a new home where he will receive lots of love and attention.

Adopted July 2012.

Woodie - Woodie was surrendered to a local animal shelter in NE Texas, he was released to the shelter from a breeding situation along with 3 other shelties.  Woodie is 2 years old, up to date on all of his vaccinations, neutered, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative.  He is a sable merle, stands 15 inches tall and weighs about 28 pounds.  It appears that Woodie has never experienced the outdoors or the companionship of other dogs, he is very uncomfortable with the outdoors and is not really sure what to think about the fosters resident dogs.  He gets along fine with them, he’s just not sure of how to act.  He likes to be petted and will lay his head into your hand for scratches and pets.  Woodie is learning to be a dog and this learning process will take several months.  Please check back for Woodie's progress.

UPDATE - Woodie is finding that his world is bigger than his crate or the kitchen of his foster home.  He likes to take trips around the backyard and he does it on a loose leash, this was a major breakthrough for this fellow.  He plays well with the other dogs in the foster home and enjoys playing with some toys.

Adopted June 2012.

.

Snicker – Snicker was a stray and the shelter wasn’t sure she was a sheltie.  She’s only 12 inches tall and weighs 13 pounds, and yes, she has one blue and brown eye.  Snicker is a sable merle sheltie and when her coat improves we’ll be seeing silver in the layers.  Snicker is 2 years old, up to date on all vaccination, spayed, heartworm negative, and on heartworm preventative.  Snicker loves a good game of tennis ball, in her foster home she went thru the big box of toys, found a tennis ball, jumped up on the foster’s lap, dropped the ball and announced LET’S PLAY!  She also walks well on a leash and gets along great with the resident shelties.

Adopted June 2012.

Winston – Winston was an owner surrender to a local shelter.  He’s 7 years old, neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative.  Winston is about 13 or 14 inches tall and weighs 21 pounds.  He was a little frightened when he first came in to rescue but after getting to his foster home, a sweet, happy sheltie appeared.  He loves to play with tennis balls, he knows a couple of commands, walks beautifully on a leash, gets along great with other dogs, housetrained and enjoys a ride in the car.

Adopted June 2012.

Lola – Lola was a stray picked up by Austin Animal Control and taken to the shelter, no one came for this lovely little girl.  Lola is about 8 years old, stand about 14 inches tall and weighs 18 pounds.  Lola is up to date on all of her vaccinations, heartworm negative, spayed and is on heartworm preventative.  When Lola came to the shelter she had a wound on her right front paw.  When our vets took a look at Lola’s paw they recognized that it was a tumor that had engulfed her middle toe.  She had surgery to remove the tumor and the toe along with getting her teeth cleaned.  Since it’s a middle toe there should be no significant problems with her walking once the paw has healed.  Lola is a precious sheltie with a very relaxed attitude, she loves being close to her foster mom, follows her everywhere she can.  She is house trained, loves to play with toys, and gets along great with the resident shelties.

Adopted May 2012.

Bella - Bella came to us as an owner surrender because her family is having to move often and to small quarters. Bell is considered an oversized sheltie at about 18 inches tall and 44 pounds. She is 6 years old, spayed, up to date on all of her vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative. Bella loves to take rides in the car, she gives the driver a few kisses and then quickly settles down in the back seat. She gets along well with everyone, loves other dogs, likes cats, and is an impeccable house guest. She has lovely house manners and a warm and loving personality. She also smiles a lot.

Adopted May 2012.

Skipper - Skipper was a stray and his owners never came for him. He is a happy go lucky sheltie with lots of energy and he loves to play with toys. Skipper is up to date on all of his vaccinations, neutered, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative. Skipper is about 18 months old, stands about 15 inches tall and weighs about 20 pounds. He gets along well with other dogs. Skipper is learning how to walk on a leash and he enjoys his morning walks.

Adopted April 2012

ChipChip is a 9 year old male that came to us from the Killeen shelter.  He is 16 inches tall and weighs 34 pounds.   Chip  is leash and house trained and ix very good with children, other dogs and cats. When Chip first walked into his foster home he immediately found a ball and rope and wanted to play, he will play catch as long as you are willing to throw to him.   Chip has a very nice coat which we are still trying to get combed out but that will come with time. He is heartworm and fecal negative and currently on antibiotics to ensure there are no issues. He is intact but will be neutered before he is adopted.  Chip will bring a lot of joy to whomever is lucky enough to adopt him.

Adopted April 2012.

Paisley – Paisley appears to be a Sheltie mixed with a touch of Australian Shepherd.  She was found wandering around in a parking lot and taken to Austin Animal Center.  Paisley has a sable face and a blue merle body…all soft and curly.  At 3 months old (we are guessing she was born in December 2011) she is about 13 inches tall and weighs 15 pounds.    Paisley is up to date on all of her vaccinations, crate trained, working on her house training, learning to walk on a leash and loving all the attention she can get.  She’s a bouncy, bubbly ball of energy.  She hasn’t been spayed but will be before she is adopted.

Adopted March 2012.

Lukai - Lukai (pronounced Loo Ki) was surrendered to us because of his owners illness, she was unable to take care of him anymore.. Lukai is about 17 inches tall and weighs 53 pounds, he needs to lose a few pounds. He is up to date on all of his vaccinations and is neutered. He is also heartworm negative and is on heartworm preventative. He is a sweet, easy going sheltie, very sociable. He loves to take walks. His previous owner says he is a gentle and loving sheltie that gets along great with everyone including other dogs, cats and small children.

UPDATE – Lukai is 3 years old. He is losing weight with additional exercise and the famous green bean & weight management diet. He likes to play but is low key about it, no zoomies for Lukai cause he’s a mellow fellow. He really enjoys his twice a day walks and enjoys meeting others along the way.

Adopted March 2012.

Dolly2 - Dolly came to us from the Lampasas animal shelter.  The shelter workers contacted us because they felt she needed rescue after being surrendered.  Dolly is sable and white, stands about 16 inches tall, and weighs around 33 pounds.  She is spayed and up to date on everything, is heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative.  Dolly is 2 years old, born in July of 2009,, and because she is still very young she has lots of energy.  Dolly loves to play with toys and would do best in a home with older children.  Dolly is house trained, she gets along with older children and other dogs.

Adopted February 2012.

Jeter - Jeter is young sheltie that came to us via Blue Paws Rescue in Lexington. They rescued him and turned him over to us. Jeter is an adorable little guy with loads of personality, but he has some problems. Jeter has some congenital defects that are going to require some special surgery. First he is missing a tail, this really isn’t a problem for him and we won’t do anything to change it…he’s got a really cute tush though! The vets think he may have hypospadias, which is a congenital malformation of his penis, he is missing part of the sheath. We are hoping that surgery will correct this problem and he will be able to live a long and happy life.

UPDATE:  Jeter has had his surgery and he came thru with flying colors.  He has now been neutered and is healing from the hypospadias surgery.  All of his parts are working and he is continuing his housetraining.  Jeter loves to play with the resident dogs, he walks well on a leash, and enjoys meeting new people and dogs on his morning walks.

UPDATE:  Jeter is doing great.  He is housetrained, totally healed from his surgery, and learning new tricks like Down and Gimme Five.  He still has one of the cutest butts in sheltiedom.  Jeter plays well with the resident dogs and loves meeting new people.  He gets along well with small children and probably cats also.  He has his moments outside of loving to run and roll with the other dogs but he also has quiet times in the house where he lays at the foster mom’s feet and just snoozes.

Adopted February 2012.

Jack 3 – Jack and Penny, brother and sister, came to us because their owner was having to go into an assisted living center.  Jack is 16 inches tall and weighs 35 pounds.  He is 8 years old, neutered, up to date on all of his vaccinations, heartworm negative and is now on heartworm preventative.  Jack is a sweet fellow who loves to play tug.  When Jack came in to rescue we noticed he might have some vision problems.  A trip to an eye clinic to see what could be done.  We found out that Jack has detached retinas and has very limited sight in each eye.  We will be doing some further testing to see if some of his sight can be restored.  Jack gets around fine once he gets familiar with his area but he does not let his lack of vision slow him down or hinder his love for life.  Jack is housetrained and has wonderful house manners.  He also gets along well with other dogs and always has smile.

UPDATE:  The additional testing indicated that nothing can be done to correct Jack’s blindness.  Foster mom gets down on the floor first thing in the morning and plays with Jack and several of the other dogs.  Jack is the main player, growling and barking, playing tug with the dog blanket.  He also plays using mouthing, but never hard.    He has mapped his way around the house fine and has a definite route that he follows.  He does well outside and has his 'route' there as well.  Jack goes all the way out to the fence, and walks the fence line back to the driveway.  Once he gets on the driveway, he knows the way back to the garage.  He enjoys barking when everyone else is barking.  He loves attention and is a very happy boy.  He too HAS to be WITH you wherever you are.

Adopted January 2012.

Penny 2 - Jack and Penny, brother and sister, came to us because their owner was having to go into an assisted living center.  Penny is 15 inches tall and weighs about 30 pounds.  She is 8 years old, spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and is now on heartworm preventative.  When Penny was examined by out vet, they noticed she was squinting a lot in her left eye.  Tests showed that Penny has corneal dystrophy, ulcers on her cornea.  We are treating with various medications and will do some further testing.  These ulcers do not affect her vision but sometimes they are uncomfortable for her.  Penny loves everyone and loves to play tug with her brother.  Penny is a happy, sweet girl, she is housetrained and has perfect house manners.

UPDATE: Penny is no longer squinting which indicates the ulcers are under control.   She loves being around the resident dogs - participates in all the daily chores - going out to get the mail; potty patrol etc.  She loves rawhide chewies, and carries one with her in her mouth when she goes outside.  She runs, barks and 'does her business' with it in her mouth sometimes.  Penny loves human companionship and is never more than a few feet from either of her foster parents.  It would be nice to adopt Penny & Jack together, but Penny would be fine if they were separated.  She sleeps in a crate, and always sleeps on her back with all four feet up in the air.  A very sweet & loving dog,

Adopted January 2012.

Chloe 2 - Chloe is a beautiful sable and white female sheltie mix who came from an animal shelter in Killeen where she was found as a stray. She is approximately 1 - 1.5 years old and is a small dog who stands 14.5 inches tall but only weighs 13 lbs. She has been spayed and brought up-to-date on all vaccinations. She tested heartworm negative and is on heartworm preventative. Unfortunately, the two bones in Chloe's lower right hind leg were broken and surgery was done to repair these bones. She has a splint on her leg and she will need to stay crated for appx 5-8 weeks while her leg heals.

Chloe appears to be housebroken and seems to have good house manners.....although it is hard to tell since she stays confined in small areas. She is a very lovable dog and likes to give lots of sheltie kisses. She is a sweet and sociable dog, once she gets past her initial shyness when she meets a new person. She has a very mellow disposition and gets along very well with the dogs in her foster home. Everyone who meets Chloe, immediately falls in love with her!

Chloe will be available for adoption in mid-late November. This will allow enough time for Chloe's leg to heal and for her to gain about 4-5 lbs. Chloe is a sweetheart and will make a wonderful addition to someone's family!

Update: Chloe is doing very well and is now ready for adoption.  She has gained weight and now weighs 20 lbs, so she is looking much healthier.  She probably still needs to gain another 2-4 lbs to reach her ideal weight. Chloe's broken leg has completely healed  and she is such a happy girl because she can run and play.

This sweet girl is extremely lovable and likes to cuddle.  Even though she now has the run of the house, she has become her foster mom's shadow.   Sheis a young dog, so is very energetic and likes to play with her toys and also with the resident dogs.

We can confirm that Chloe is housebroken.  She continues to have good house manners.  She would do well either in a home where she is the only dog or in a home with other dogs.  She would also do very well in a house withchildren since she would love all the attention.

Adopted January 2012.

Kaylee Kaylee is about 2 years old, she came to us from Killeen where she was picked up as a stray.  She is about 14 inches tall and weighs 16 pounds, we are trying to help her gain a few pounds.  Kaylee is spayed, now up to date on all of her vaccinations, heartworm negative and is on heartworm preventative.  Kaylee is housetrained to a doggie door and she gets along great with other dogs.  She is a little shy at first but is a playful girl once she is comfortable with her surroundings.

UPDATE: Kaylee is a happy, energetic girl that loves to play.  Although she had gained a few pounds since arriving at Austin Sheltie Rescue, she is maintain her girlish figure by running, jumping and helping the resident sheltie maintain order in the backyard…aka chasing squirrels.  She is still a little shy when she meets new people but is gaining confidence.  She is such a silly girl and fun to watch, especially when it comes to keeping herself entertained i.e. throwing a toy in the air and running after it.

Adopted January 2012.

Yoshi -Yoshi is a 4 year old owner surrender. He was relinquished because of a new baby in the house. Yoshi is neutered, up to date on all of his vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative. Yoshi is a gentleman inside the house, has very nice house manners, loves to take walks, and gets along very well with other dogs and small children.  Everyone he meets is greeted very politely with a wag of the tail. He stands 16 inches tall and is a bit overweight at 37 pounds. He is working on dropping 5 to 8 pounds with good food and exercise. Yoshi is an adorable, friendly fellow with tons of charming personality. He loves to snuggle and give hugs.

Adopted January 2012.

Sunny - Sunny is one of the 4 shelties surrendered to Bastrop Animal Control. She was so matted, she had to be shaved down to the skin. Like the others she appears to have been living outside in a state of neglect. Sunny is between 5 and 6 years old, she is a sable and white and stands about 14 inches tall. She weighs about 23 pounds and is spayed. Sunny is now up to date on all of her vaccinations but tested positive for heartworms. She will have to go thru the long and miserable treatment before she is ready for adoption. Sunny is loving living inside, having good food and soft pillows, and getting all kinds of attention. She is also working on her housetraining and inside manners.

UPDATE: Sunny is doing great, she also has finished her heartworm treatment and is now housetrained.  Sunny has a little arthritis which sometimes makes it difficult for her to get up stairs…but she keeps working at it.  She also has spurts where she loves to run and play.  She enjoyed visiting with so many other sheltie and people at the recent picnic.

Adopted January 2012.

Bentley - Whoa…you are right. Bentley is not a sheltie, he’s a pomeranian puppy. He was surrendered to Austin Animal Center 2 days before Thanksgiving after he had severe problems with his eye. AAC contacted us thinking he was a small sheltie and since it was the day before Thanksgiving we couldn’t let him spend the holidays in the shelter. His eye had to be removed but it hasn’t slowed this little fireball down one bit. He knows which side to be on so he can always keep things in sight, he runs and plays with the resident dogs, and is quite a little snuggler. Bentley was born in July, 2011, he weighed 7 pounds when he came into rescue and probably won’t get much bigger. He is crate trained and is working on housetraining. Bentley is up to date on his vaccinations and has been neutered
