Adopted Shelties - 2015

See our shelties who have been lovingly adopted into "forever homes" in 2015.

Peggy Sue (was Pippa) – Peggy Sue was a family surrender after her owner passed away. The family would have liked to have kept Peggy Sue but a family member is highly allergic to dogs and cats. Peggy Sue is a 5 year old blue merle with perfectly tipped ears. She is 16 inches tall and weighs 41 pounds. Peggy Sue is house trained and she gets along with other dogs. She loves to take walks and that along with a good diet will help her start to work off that extra weight. Right now Peggy Sue is very concerned about her changes and is being very shy but we are sure she will start coming out of her shell.

UPDATE: Because of confusion between Pippa and Pippin, Pippa got a new name, Peggy Sue, and she really likes it. Peggy Sue is coming out of her shell, she likes to play with toys and tennis balls. Even though her exercise level has increased and her food intake has decreased, Peggy Sue is gaining weight. She will be getting a thyroid test to see if she is like many shelties, hypothyroid. If so, she will be taking a low priced supplement.

UPDATE: Peggy Sue does not have thyroid issues, she is just having problems losing weight. Foster mom has put her on a weight management food, which she loves, and will continue working with her to get rid of a few extra pounds.

Adopted November 2015.

Prince 3 Prince is 8 years old, up to date on all of his vaccinations, heartworm negative, on heartworm preventive, neutered and micro-chipped. Prince is house trained and leash trained, he loves to take long walks. Prince gets along well with other dogs and prefers to be in a house with other dogs, Prince has always been with other dogs and needs them to keep him busy. He gets along well with small children. Prince is about 16 inches tall and weighs 30 pounds.

Prince has a sweet and friendly personality, although he is cautious when he first meets people, especially males. He is a bit 'chatty' and will let you know when he sees a car, bird, etc. He gets along well with other dogs. He knows several commands including: sit, down, and wait. If you put a treat on his paw and tell him to 'wait', he will not take the treat until you tell him he can! He also knows how to use a doggie door and enjoys spending time in the back yard running and playing.

Adopted October 2015.

Roxy – Roxy came in with Bella and Smokey. Their owner passed away and there was no family left. Friends made sure the girls were taken to the vet and were then turned over to the local animal shelter. The shelter contacted us to help them find new homes. Roxy is the most outgoing. She is sable and white and just turned 5. Roxy has been spayed, is up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventive. Roxy is 15 inches tall and weighs 32 pounds, she could lose a few pounds, which shouldn’t be hard with good diet and exercise. Roxy is house trained and leash trained. She gets along well with other dogs.

Adopted October 2015.

Smokey 2 – Smokey came in with Bella and Roxy. Their owner passed away and there was no family left. Friends made sure the girls were taken to the vet and were then turned over to the local animal shelter. The shelter contacted us to help them find new homes. Smokey is shy but is starting to come out of her shell. She is a 4 year old blue merle with a touch of blue in one eye. Smokey is about 16 inches tall and weighs 55 pounds, she is now on a good diet and is getting daily exercise to help her lose about 15 to 20 pounds. Smokey is house trained and walks on a leash, She gets along well with other dogs.

Howie Howie is a tiny white and brown male puppy found as a stray and turned over to AAC.   We aren’t quite sure what his mix is but because he is so cute, we just know there is some sheltie in there somewhere. He had a big abscess on his forehead which has been treated and is healing well.  We are estimating he came in at 7 weeks old, so we’ve put his birthday as the first of February, 2015.  He’s a cute little guy, he started out at a little over 2 pounds.  He will be going thru the usual puppy shots and will not be available for adoption until after he is neutered, which should be done in July.

UPDATE:    Howie is not a sheltie or sheltie mix.  We did a DNA test and found that he is hypoallergenic, doesn’t shed, and will always be a small guy.  Howie is now up to date on all of his vaccinations and has been neutered.  At 6 months he is a little guy at only 7 to 8 pounds.  He is working on crate training and house training. Howie is a happy little fellow, loves everyone, loves playing with other dogs, loves being handled and snuggled, and his favorite place is in your lap while you watch TV.

Adopted September 2015.

Wylie Wylie is a recent owner surrender because he just didn’t fit in with the family.  Wylie is 5 years old, up to date on all of his vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventive.  Wylie stands about 15 inches and is overweight at 42 pounds.  We have determined that Wylie has a low thyroid and requires twice a day inexpensive medication.  Now that he is on regular medication his coat is improving and his weight will start coming off.  He is also taking daily walks to help reduce.  Wylie gets along well with other dogs, loves to play with toys, and enjoys a good game of fetch.  He is also house trained and is becoming crate trained.  Wylie loves to be brushed  and is so appreciative of any attention he receives but is a bit nervous around small children.

Adopted September 2015.

Bowser Bowser is a 5 year old sheltie pom mix. He is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventive. Bowser is working on his house training and is learning to use the doggy door. Bowser loves small children and loves everyone. Bowser rides well in the car and loves to take walks. Bowser is about 12 inches tall and weighs 11 pounds, he could gain 2 or 3 and be a perfect weight. Bowser came in with Simba and is somewhat bonded with him but it is not necessary that they be adopted together.

Adopted September 2015.

Simba Simba is a 10 year old sable and white owner surrender. He is neutered, up to date on all of his vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventive. He has had a recent dental but we found that he needs a couple of abscessed teeth removed, he will be scheduled for a dental. Simba gets along great with other dogs, he does well with small children and is very friendly….he never meets a stranger. Simba is house trained and has learned to use the doggy door. He loves to take walks and rides well in the car. Simba weighs 24 pounds and stands about 15 inches tall. Simba came in with Bowser and is somewhat bonded with him but it is not mandatory that they be adopted together.

Adopted September 2015.

Adopted September 2015.

Rico - Rico is a 3 year old owner surrender to the Austin Animal Center because the family had too many dogs. Rico stands about 18 inches tall and only weighs 34 pounds. He needs to add a few pounds and with good nutrition and good food, there is no doubt he will fill out and be a truly handsome sheltie. Rico is neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventive. He is housetrained and gets along well with other dogs, loves to run and play with them and small puppies don’t bother him at all. Rico loves to take walks and does really well on a leash, he is an easy walker that stays close by your side.

Adopted August 2015.

Katie - Katie is an owner surrender because apartment living was just difficult for a little girl with lots of energy. Katie is called either a Color Headed White with sable sheltie or a piebald sheltie, unusual coloring for a sheltie. She is about 15 inches tall and weighs about 15 pounds. She is a year and a half old, spayed and up to date on all vaccinations. Katie is heartworm negative and on heartworm preventive. Katie does well with other dogs, loves to run and play….her favorite game seems to be chase with the other dogs. Katie is mostly housetrained but does have some accidents so she is working on this with her foster mom. She likes walks and does really well on leash and mostly ignores others on the street.

Adopted July 2015.

Jackson – Jackson is one of many collies that were rescued by Houston Collie Rescue from a hoarding situation, ASR volunteered to help out with a few of them. Jackson is 5 years old and is a male light sable and white smooth collie. He is up to date on all of his vaccinations, but is heartworm positive and somewhat malnourished. We will want to help him get healthy before he goes thru treatment and is neutered so it will be a few months before he is ready for adoption. Jackson is around 24 inches tall and weighs 38 pounds, he should weigh around 60 pounds. He appears to be house trained and is very mild mannered and calm. When he first meets people he comes up and leans into them for a few pets and strokes. Jackson gets along well with other dogs.

If you would like to know more about the collie please check out this web site http://www.akc.org/breeds/collie/index.cfm

UPDATE:  Jackson has completed his heartworm treatment and is so enjoying every minute of every day.  His foster mom says he is a gentle giant among her little ones even when the little ones pick on him.  He walks well on a leash, likes to walk side by side with his foster mom and meet new people on their walks.  He is house trained and will squeeze thru a dog door for dogs half his size to get outside.  Jackson is a bit concerned about incoming visitors but soon warms up to them.  He loves to be brushed and will lay his head on your knee for loving.  Jackson likes to play with toys and will periodically jump for joy.

Adopted July 2015.

alfie

Rocket – (was Alfie 2) came to us from the hill country.  He had been living outside and was never allowed in the house.  Rocket is a 2 year old tri-colored mini-aussie mix,  He stands about 14.5 inches tall and weighs around 13 pounds (needs to add 1 to 2 pounds).  He is up to date on all his vaccinations, heartworm negative, on heartworm preventive and neutered.  Since Rocket had always lived outside he is not housetrained but he is working hard to learn the outside is for elimination and not the inside.  He is leash trained and loves to take walks, so many new things to smell.  Rocket is a very athletic dog, loves to jump and run, and loves to play with toys.  He gets along really well with other dogs.  He’s a little shy with adults but small children become his immediate friends.  Alfie would also do well in a performance home, as he is very easily trained and he loves to learn.

Adopted July 2015.

India – India is a 4 month blue merle sheltie puppy that recently came to us from out of state.  India was born 12/04/2014 and she weighs around 15 pounds.  India is working on her house training, is leash trained and loves to take walks.  India also loves meeting new friends.  India will be adopted by one of pre-approved adoptive families after she is spayed in June.

Adopted July 2015.

Goldie – Goldie is one of many collies that were rescued by Houston Collie Rescue from a hoarding situation, ASR volunteered to help out with a few of them. Goldie is 5 years old and is a female sable and white smooth collie. She is up to date on all vaccinations but is heartworm positive and will have to go thru treatment. She is a bit malnourished at 39 pounds so we are helping her gain a few pounds. Goldie also has some eye problems which we will have checked out by an optometrist. Goldie will be available for adoption after she is spayed, gone thru heartworm treatment and had her eyes checked. Goldie is relearning her house manners and working on housetraining and leash walking. She is a soft and gentle collie with a lot of love to give.

Update:  Goldie has completed her heartworm treatment and has started to play with the resident shelties.  We will give her a few weeks and then we will set up an appointment with the ophthalmologist t to do some eyelid surgery.  Goldie’s eyelashes grow inward and cause her serious discomfort.  The surgery will relieve this discomfort.

Goldie to LOVES to play with resident dogs and any visitors.  She also loves rawhide chewies. Goldie is completely house trained and knows how to use a doggie door.  Goldie also likes toys and stuffed animals.  She is very affectionate and loves you back by nibbling!  She now weighs 54 lbs.  Goldie is very good at the groomers, with baths, nails being ground and drying.  She sleeps in a closed crate with a bed at night.  Goldie also walks well on a leash.

Adopted July 2015

Edie – Edie was a foundling in San Antonio. Everyone tried to find her owner with on-line ads, signs, and notices on electronic billboards. She was not microchipped so we had no way to track her back to an owner or vet clinic. Edie is about 5 or 6 years old, she has been recently spayed and is up to date on all her vaccinations. She has been tested for heartworms and the test came back negative, she is also on heartworm preventive. Edie is about 16 inches tall and weighs 38 pounds, she has already started on the green bean diet to get some of that weight off. Edie is very sweet, she gets along with everyone, including small, dog wise children.
