Scout is a 1 to 2 year old sable & white male sheltie mix that came to us from the local shelter. He wound up there after being picked up as a stray. Scout is a bouncy fellow with a curly tail and winning personality. He is about 11 inches tall and weighs about 14 pounds. Scout is up to date on all his vaccinations, heartworm negative, on heartworm preventative and has recently been neutered. We will update as we get to know more about this peppy little guy. We’ll also update with new pictures, he’s so bouncy it was hard to get him to stand still for the camera.
Jimi is a 2 to 3 year old bi-blue male that came to us from Pflugerville. Seems he was dropped off in one of the neighborhoods to fend for himself. Jimi is a mild-mannered fellow that loves people, other dogs, cats and birds. So far we know that he knows 2 commands quite well; Sit and Shake/Gimme 5. Jimi is about 18 inches tall and weighs 41 pounds. It appears that Jimi was given a summer cut that is growing out. He is up to date on all of his shots, HW negative and on heartworm preventative. Watch for updates on this sweet fellow as we get to know more about him.
UPDATE Jimi is quite a lover. He loves to be with his human and will come over and put his head in your lap and give you one of those “I really need to be petted” looks. He likes long walks and does well on the leash. He gets along well with other dogs, cats and with children. Jimi does well in the house and is crate trained. Jimi’s foster mom says that he is just a big ol’ hunk of loving dog … what a sweetheart.
Adopted October 2007
Shelby was turned over to rescue with hopes of finding her a great home where she can be totally loved and adored. Shelby is less than 3 years old, 35 pounds, 16 inches tall and is spayed. She is a bit shy and fearful at first but really wants to make friends. She appears to be housebroken, knows some commands (the rescuer asked her to Shake and she quickly gave up her paw). She likes to be close to her humans and gets along well with other dogs and cats. She has just come in to rescue so she will need to be vaccinated and have the necessary health tests done. After she is brought up to date we will get her into foster care and watch this sweet girl blossom.
UPDATE: Shelby has had her trip to the vet and she is now current on all her vaccinations. When we did the tests for heartworm we found that she has heartworms and has to go thru treatment, so sad, as this could have been easily prevented. So check back with us on her progress.
Adopted October 2007
Tami was an owner surrender to a local shelter. She is a very shy and timid little girl but is quickly coming out of her shell. Tami is 15 months old, underweight at 19 pounds and is heartworm positive. Tami is somewhat shy but we know with good nutrition, heartworm treatment and a bit of love she is going to be a happy sweet sheltie.
UPDATE: Tami is almost finished with her heartworm treatment, she should be available around the first part of October. Tami has come out of her shell, thanks to some wonderful foster parents and their resident shelties, she has learned to play and has learned that humans are wonderful and loving. She is shy at first but warms up quickly and she has gained a much needed 10 pounds. Tami would love to go to a home with other playful dogs to help her continue to grow.
Adopted October 2007
Toby is a sweet little fellow that was found in the Georgetown – Taylor area. He is about 2 to 4 years old, neutered, HW -, on heartworm preventative, up to date on all vaccinations and weighs about 17 pounds, he could gain a few pounds. He gets along well with other dogs, loves to run and play chase with them. Toby loves to crawl in your lap and give you lots of kisses and snuggles. More as we get to know more about him.
UPDATE Just look at those eyes! Our little charmer Toby is eager to find his perfect fur-ever home. He’s learned a lot during his time in foster care and his manners have improved a great deal. Toby’s ideal home is one where he can be the only dog and get all the love he so very much deserves and wants to share with his family. He loves to snuggle, give kisses and dig in the toy box for his favorite chew toys. He’s still a little too active and aggressive for children under the age of 12 and he needs to stay on a leash when he’s out and about and around other dogs (he thinks he’s a much bigger dog than he really is). Toby is smart as a whip and learns new tasks quickly and just like most Shelties, he tends to bond closely with the person who trains him. He’s got a super-sniffer – a very sensitive nose for smells as we have learned – so if your interests might be in training a dog for duties that involve a keen sense of smell, Toby is your guy! But if you also just want a loyal companion to love and provide a lot of love back, Toby wants you!
Adopted October 2007
Roxie is a lively shaded sable and white sheltie who was recently surrendered to our rescue. She is 14 months old, born in June of 2006, and is current on her vaccinations. She is an energetic young lady with lots of charm. Roxie is 17 inches tall and weighs 29 pounds. She is HW negative and is on HW preventative and has recently been spayed. Roxie gets along with other dogs, loves to run and play, and would make a good agility dog or jogging partner. She is not quite housebroken but is working hard on developing those house manners. Roxie is a fast learner, knows Sit, Down and is learning to Gimme Five.
UPDATE Roxie is doing great with her house manners and housebreaking issues. We have also learned that Roxie gets along well with cats and birds, she’s a bit curious but just likes to watch instead of chase.
Adopted October 2007
Dusty is a sweet fellow who is looking for an active home. He stands about 16 inches tall, weighs about 20 pounds, and is a beautiful blond sable with just a touch of white. Dusty is a little over a year old, up to date on all his vaccinations, neutered, HW negative and is on heartworm preventative. He is an active fellow who loves to run, and play frisbee, even knows to bring it to you on command. He also loves to snuggle and give kisses. He is a fast learner and responds quickly to praise and TREATS. And did I say he could jump…this fellow can get some air…check out his pictures.
UPDATE – We’ve found that Dusty is perfectly housebroken, gets along with other dogs and loves to go on long hikes. He is a very loyal fellow, loves to be close to his human.
Adopted September 2007
Shelly is a charming little girl that was left at the local shelter because her family did not have time for her. She is 9 years old, up to date on all vaccinations, HW negative, on heartworm preventive and spayed. She currenlty has a bit of dermatitis caused by an infestation of fleas but now that the fleas are gone her skin will have a chance to heal and the hair will grow back quickly. Shelly is a gentle little girl only about 11 inches tall and weighing in at a tad over 10 pounds. She is a little tentative when she first meets a new person but doesn’t take long to warm up and give them her paw. She gets along fine with other dogs, is housebroken and crate trained. Shelly likes to play with toys and does wonderfully in a car.
Adopted September 2007

Lucky was found as a stray wandering around an elementary school in Bastrop. She is over 14 years old and has a few problems as any senior lady would have. She’s a small sheltie, only about 17 pounds but she has her hearing and her sight and is a very happy little girl who likes to take short walks.
Lucky is a spunky lady that loves to be touched and petted by her human. She’s quirky and funny. She hops across the lawn to catch up with her foster, just to be near, and just in case a pat might come her way. Lucky would prefer to be an only dog.
Adopted July 2007
Gus is a sweet and handsome fellow who was surrendered to a local shelter due to changes in the family. He is current on all his vaccinations, neutered, tested HW negative and is on heartworm preventative. He is a mahogany sable with a very dark brown coat, although he appears to be a tri (black, brown and white). Gus is 4 years old and stands 16 inches tall and weighs appx 25 pounds. Although he is a very healthy fellow, he is thin and needs to gain a few pounds.
Gus is an extremely sweet, happy, and very lovable dog. He is housebroken and has been a good houseguest and not bothered anything in the house. He does have a tendency to jump on the furniture, but he is smart and could easily be trained not to do so. Gus is very energetic and enjoys playing, running, and going on walks. He loves to ride in the car. He is so fascinated by reflections from lights or shiny objects and tries to catch them.
Gus will do well in a home with other dogs as he is not aggressive. He will probably not do well in a home with cats as he will want to chase them! Although he has not been around children, Gus is so friendly that he will probably get along well with them. This handsome fellow is ready to fall in love with his new family and he will make a wonderful companion.
Adopted June 2007

Ben came to us as an owner surrender. He is 3 years old, heartworm negative, up to date on all his vaccinations, recently neutered and working on his house manners. Ben is a big fellow at 37 pounds and 17 inches tall but is really a sweet fellow. He is very curious about new things, most of them seem quite strange to him. He was startled by a small statue of a sitting dog and as you can tell in one of his pictures, he is quite interested in the aromas coming from the oven.
Adopted May 2007
Rosie – Cute, Sweet, Pleasant, Loveable, Gentle, Obedient, Fluffy. All of these words describe Rosie. She just came in from the Humane Society of Williamson County and she is getting up to date on all her vaccinations. She is HW-, spayed, about 9 years old, stands 15 inches tall and weighs 30 pounds, exercise and diet are in the immediate future to help her lose 10 pounds.
Adopted May 2007
Ellie (now Ivy) – Ellie is a sheltie and border collie mix with a fun and outgoing personality. She is about 1 year old and she weighs approximately 37 pounds. Ellie gets along well with other dogs and loves to have another dog to play with. She is good in the house and appears to be housetrained. Ellie is up to date on shots, is HW- and on preventive, and is spayed. She shows that she has some potential for dog agility and/or flyball, as she is an athletic girl who learns quickly and has good drive.
UPDATE: Ellie has gained some much needed weight, and she is feeling much better than she did at the shelter. The skin problems she had as a result of being a stray have been resolved, and her glossy border collie-type coat is coming back in beautifully. She is a love and has a lot of fun with her foster siblings, playing fetch and tug. Ellie loves the occasional rawhide and she is always looking to play! An ideal home for her would be one with another dog and where she can get a lot of excercise, Ellie is very active but she can settle well in a home environment. She would probably do best in a home with older children, as she can be a bit rambunctious with her play.
Adopted May 2007
Bear – What a handsome mahogany sable young fellow! Due to changes in the family, he was turned in to ASR. He was immediately brought up to date on all his shots, neutered, and had his rear dewclaws removed. He tested HW negative and is on heartworm preventative.
Bear is appx 18 months old and stands 16 inches tall and weighs appx 33 pounds. He is a very healthy fellow!!
Bear is a very gentle, extremely sweet, and quiet dog. He is housebroken and has been the perfect houseguest. He does not bother anything in the house and does not jump up on the furniture. For being such a young dog, he is very laid back, mellow, and well behaved.
He walks well on a leash and enjoys going outside, especially if the neighbor’s dog comes over to play with him. He loves the dogs in his foster home and has never shown any aggression towards them.
Bear is timid, but we are working on this. He is slowly learning to trust the humans in his foster home and makes a little progress everyday. He enjoys the love and attention he receives and it is obvious that one day, when he trusts his humans completely, he will return the love.
Bear will do well in a home where someone can continue to work with him on his ‘trust’ issues. He will do very well in a home with other dogs. He will also do well in a home with older children.
This handsome fellow is going to blossom into a wonderful and loving companion.
Adopted May 2007
Missy – Little Kissy Missy is a precious 4 month old female sheltie. Her rescuer called her Kissy Missy because that was the first thing this little sweetie did, give her a kiss. Missy is getting up to date on all of her vaccinations and rabies and has been scheduled to be spayed. She is learning to walk on a leash and learning good house manners. More as we get to know her.
Adopted May 2007
Kristi is a small sable and white female that was found wandering lost around Canyon Lake and after the finder could not locate her owner she turned her over to rescue. Kristi is between 2 and 4 years old, is 11 inches tall and weighs 20 pounds. Her trip to the vet brought her up to date on all her vaccinations but we found out that she tested high positive for heartworms. She is so dainty and fragile that we have decided she will go thru a split treatment. She is extremely scared and shy right now but her foster family sees glimpses of a friendly, loving, bouncy sheltie hiding under that timid exterior.
Adopted April 2007

Abbie gets along with other dogs and is a bit of a cuddler.
UPDATE Abbie is very interested in playing fetch and her favorite toy is a ball. She has recently been spayed, is up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and is on heartworm preventative. Meggie is a beautiful blue maltese sheltie, imagine a dark steel blue. She stands about 16 inches tall and weighs around 25 pounds and is 4 years old. Meggie came to us from a breeding farm out of state via a long transport. She is very shy, as many puppymill dogs are, but is learning to trust. She is up to date on all her vaccinations, HW negative, on HW preventative, and is spayed. She gets along with other dogs and is working on housetraining and being less fearful.
Adopted March 2007
Knight came to us from the local shelter where he had been brought in as a stray. He is a sweet, loving fellow. Knight is a double merle, the result of breeding a merle to a merle. This type of breeding often results in white pups that may or may not have hearing and/or sight. Knight is able to see with his bright blue eyes but he doesn’t appear to hear much at all. Knight is learning to walk on a leash and to respond to hand signals. He is up to date on his shots and he is neutered. But, poor fellow, he is heartworm positive and will have to go thru treatment before he will be available for adoption. Knight is about 16 inches tall and weighs 20 pounds.
UPDATE 1 – Knight will be starting heartworm treatment soon. His vet has noticed that he is very quick to respond to things, he appears to be highly trainable. Knight is also a real love-bug and has very good vision.
UPDATE 2 – Knight has finished his heartworm treatment and is ready for a new home. His foster mom says that Knight is housebroken, crate trained, and has learned to walk beautifully on a leash. He stays close to her and is alert to her every movement. He loves to give and receive attention and he enjoys playing with other dogs.

Buddy walks well on a leash and enjoys his daily walks. Buddy has some health issues that are being controlled with daily, inexpensive medication. He is up to date on all of his vaccinations, is HW- and is on heartworm preventative. Buddy enjoys being close to his humans and always has a happy smile on his face.
Adopted March 2007
Diego (was Radar) is a small sable and white male, about 12.5 lbs, that is about a year and a half old. He has just come into the program and we are working on getting him UTD on shots, getting him neutered, and tested for heartworm. Radar is a little shy but he definitely loves to snuggle. He was named Radar (like in M*A*S*H) for his alert ears and his sweet attitude. Stay tuned for updates on this adorable little guy.
Adopted March 2007
Ginger is a beautiful female sable sheltie mix who is appx 1 year old. She came to Austin Sheltie Rescue from a local shelter. She is up to date on all her vaccinations and was recently spayed. She is HW negative and on heartworm preventative. She stands appx 17 inches tall and weighs 21 pounds (a bit underweight).
She is a very sweet and lovable young dog who wants alot of attention. She loves to please her humans and shower them with kisses. On her recent visit to the vet, she couldn’t give everyone there enough kisses! She loves everyone she meets and is not shy at all.
Ginger is very alert to everything going on both inside and outside of the house. She loves to go on walks so she can practice her prancing and she is just fascinated with everything. She is learning some basic commands and appears to be a fast learner.
She is housebroken. It appears that she aspires to be an interior decorator as she is doing some ‘rearranging’ of some stuffed animals and beanie bears in her foster home. She also loves to play with all the ‘doggie’ toys and carries them all over the house. She gets along with the other dogs in her foster home.
Ginger will do well in a home where someone can continue to work with her on basic commands and some obedience training. Daily walks (or jogs) will be needed to use up some of her energy. She will probably do very well in a home with children. She would also do well in a home with a doggie companion to romp around with.
Ginger will make a wonderful and loving pet for some lucky family out there!!
Adopted February 2007
Twyla – Love by the bucketful. Twyla is a people-focused dog who wants to give and get affection. Nothing makes her happier than getting pets, and if she gets them she wants more. If she doesn’t get them, though, she’ll find a comfy place for a nap. On a walk, she doesn’t pull (because she stays close in case you want to stop and pet her), although she’s interested in pausing for sniffs. She gets along with other dogs and has shown no signs of aggression toward people. Everyone who has met her, loves her. Twyla is approximately 2 years old and stands about 15 inches tall. She is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative.
Adopted February 2007
Zoe – Zoe is a white factored tri female sheltie that just came to us from the local shelter. Zoe is about 2 years old, 15 inches tall, and weighs 26 pounds. Zoe is up to date on all her vaccinations, HW-, is on heartworm preventative and is spayed. The first thing she did when she saw her new foster mom was to give her a kiss, we could tell she was very happy to be rescued.
UPDATE: This little girl has come such a long way since she arrived at her foster mom’s house just a few short months ago. Zoe came to us extremely fear agressive and would attack anything she saw is a threat which was pretty much everything including my father and our other animals. Now that she has adjusted to her new surroundings she is beginning to relax and show her true sweet and submissive nature. Not only does she adore my father but she also loves to play with our other dogs and even the cat likes to get in on the fun by chasing Zoe around the house.
Zoe is truly a submissive dog and needs an owner who know how to be in charge. She’s great on a leash and loves to play fetch. Zoe is a very smart and active dog who loves to run and play and would be great at agility or something else where she can let out her energy. She’s affectionate and playful and is busy learning that life with people is lots of fun. She’d be great in an active home with adults or older children who know how to act around animals, and gets along well with dogs and cats.
Adopted February 2007
Connie is a 9 year old sable and white female who weighs 34 pounds and stands appx 14.5 inches tall. She is spayed, current on all her vaccinations, HW- and currently on heartworm preventative.
Connie is a very sweet and well-behaved girl who enjoys attention from her humans. She will respond with cuddles and lots of sheltie kisses. She gets along well with the dogs in her foster home and has not shown any dominance traits with them. She is housebroken and a perfect house guest. She enjoys her walks as well as rides in the car. She is not a yappy dog, but will join in if the other dogs in the house start barking. She is very friendly and not shy. She is a smart dog who appears to be a fast learner. She knows some basic commands and responds immediately when called.
Although Connie is 9 years old, she is still an active dog who looks younger due to her size and her beautiful “puppy” face. She said she doesn’t want anyone to think of her as an “older dog” because she still has lots of energy and lots of love to give. She is looking forward to some very good years in her new forever home!
Connie is on a diet to lose weight and on a walking program. Her coat was shaved when we got her, but she will have a beautiful coat when it grows out.
Connie does like children, but would probably do better in a home with older children.
Adopted February 2007
Tucker 2 is a medium sized sable and white sheltie that also came from the same place as Meggie. He stands about 16 inches tall and weighs 25 pounds. Tucker2 is around 18 months old and like Meggie is quite shy. He is up to date on all vaccinations, HW negative, on HW preventative, and is neutered. Tucker2 gets along with other dogs and is also learning to trust. He will curl up in a lap one minute and will tremble the next. He has a way to go, but we know there is a happy, smiley, kissy sheltie underneath all of that fear.
