Tessa – Tessa came to us from Waco where she was left in an overnight box with a note indicating her family was moving and couldn’t take her with them. Tessa is a 6 year old tri colored sheltie, she stands 16 inches tall and weighs about 18 pounds. She is now up to date on all of her vaccinations, spayed, heartworm negative and on heartworm preventative. It appears that Tessa has lived her whole life outside. She is easily frightened of noises in the house, like TV’s. She didn’t how to eat out of a bowl or plate, or how to walk on a leash. Now that she has been in her foster home for a short time, this smart girl has learned to eat out of a bowl and that leashes are fine, she recently came to a Meet and Greet and was very comfortable with all of the attention she received.. She enjoys her daily walks with her foster and the resident sheltie and she is learning house manners.
Adopted November 2011
Sean – Sean came to us as a stray from Killeen. He is between 12 and 13 years old, but has times when he acts 10 or 11. Sean is between 16-17 inches tall and weighs 33 pounds. He is fully house trained, walks well on a leash, and gets along well with other dogs. He very rarely barks but does on occasion if he is stopped from going into an area of the house with his people. At his fosters house this is upstairs because he struggles with stairs. They will let him go up if they are close to him in case he stumbles. He prefers not to be crated. The foster family has found no reason to have him stay in a crate as he is a very relaxed gentleman that does not bother anything in the house. He just wants to have a place to relax where he can spend time watching his people and getting some attention. Sean has not attempted to get on the furniture though it looks like he wants to so he can lay beside his foster. Sean may have a little arthritis in his hind quarters as he tends to get up slowly. He sleeps on a doggie bed next to his fosters bed and does not need to go out during the night. He has shown no interest in playing with any toys but will trot happily on a leash. Sean has been through a lot before his rescue, as well as a lot of treatment since, his teeth were falling out or were abcessed and one of his canines had eaten away into his sinus cavity. Sean is a very resilient gentleman and does not let his age or problems slow him down. Thru all he has happened to him since he came into rescue, major dental work with hours trying to clean up his mouth, he has remained cheerful with a wagging tail. Sean would be happy in any home that will allow him a chance to spend time with his people.

Angel’s foster mom says she is a quiet girl that loves to be close to her human, she gets along well with the resident dogs and just loves attention but is not demanding. He likes to take walks, they are short right now but we will be building up to longer walks. Wrigley is a tail wagger, his foster mom can hear him all thru the house wagging his tail and thumping the inside walls of his crate. He always has a smile and loves everyone.

Alfie – Alfie is an owner surrender. His owner, after taking wonderful care of this sweet fellow, was going in to the hospital and needed us to find Alfie a new home. Alfie appears to be a sheltie mix, white with sable spots. He is about 8 years old, stands about 15 inches tall and weighs 22 pounds. Alfie is up to date on all of his vaccinations, heartworm negative, on heartworm preventative and neutered. Alfie gets along with young children and with other dogs.
Here are some comments from his foster mom… “Alfie is a very sweet dog. He loves attention, very independent and really enjoys being outside. He whines when he wants to go outside. The only problem right now is he pulls on the leash when we try to take him for a walk. He’ll either pull back like he doesn’t want to go or pulls forward wanting to take off but we’re working on it. He loves to follow any one of us all over the house and in the yard. It’s so cute when he does, his eyes sparkle and his tail swishes back and forth like he couldn’t be happier.”
UPDATE – Alfie’s foster dad says that he loves being snuggled and cuddled. He also says that Alfie should continue receiving training to learn basic commands; like come, stay, and sit. Alfie is a sweetie that gets along with the resident dogs and has boundless energy.
Adopted September 2011
Daisy – Daisy came to us from Harker Heights where she had been surrendered by her owner. Daisy is a sable and white 6 year old, spayed, stands about 16 inches and when she came to us she weighed more than 64 pounds. She is now up to date on all of her shots but when we tested her for heartworms we found that is heartworm positive and will have to go thru the long and rough treatment. And to make matters worse, because of her weight we will have to help her get that weight off before she can start the treatment. Daisy has been in our program since the first of June and is now down to 54 pounds, she is accomplishing this by with regular exercise and a lots of green beans and carrots. Daisy’s foster family proclaims her the sweetest, most loving sheltie around. She will be starting her heartworm treatment soon.
UPDATE – We are celebrating…Daisy is now down to just over 40 pounds, which means she has lost over 20 pounds since she came in to rescue. Since she has lost all of this weight she is now able to start the heartworm treatment. Daisy will be ready for her new home by the end of April.
UPDATE – Daisy has also started and finished her heartworm treatment. She loves being with the other dogs in her foster home and gets along great with them. Daisy also loves to be the center of attention and loves her own cuddling and hugging. Her foster mom says she gives the sweetest sheltie kisses. Daisy has lost over 25 pounds and will need an exercise program to help keep her weight down, and she does love to talk walks.
HAPPY ENDING UPDATE!!! Miss Daisy Duke was adopted in late July. She will have a very special role, as a companion animal/therapy dog and walking partner for a woman who suffers from depression. She is a perfect match for her new job. She found a home where she is needed as much as she is wanted. Her sweet disposition and loving nature is a perfect match for this fur-ever family. Daily walks are in order, as well as much attention and spoiling. Daisy is settling well in her new job, and will be well loved and cared for. It is a happy ending for this very special dog.
Jesse – Jesse came to us from Coppell where he had been left at the animal shelter by his owners. Jesse is 3 to 4 years old, sable and white, stands about 16 inches tall and weighs 26 pounds. He is neutered and up to date on all of his vaccinations. But sad to say, Jesse is heartworm positive and will have to go thru heartworm treatment. Jesse is housetrained and gets along great with other dogs and with older children. He loves to play with toys and knows how to SIT and is learning Gimme 5 and Down. He will be starting heartworm treat around the end of September and should be available in November.
UPDATE: Because of many busy weeks since Jesse came in to rescue his heartworm treatment got scheduled for the first of November. He went in for the treatment and we decided to do another hw test on him, he had tested light on the earlier test, and we found that he is now heartworm negative. We credit this to being light positive earlier and having no antigens along with being treated with ivermectin and doxycycline in preparation for the heartworm treatment. This is wonderful for him because he won’t have to go thru the terrible treatment and is now ready for adoption.
Adopted July 2011
Sweet Pea – Sweet Pea is one of the 4 shelties that came to us from Bastrop Animal Control after being surrendered by their owner. Sweet Pea (does that tell you how sweet she is) was severely matted and had to be shaved very close. As with the other, Sweet Pea appears to have been neglected. She stands about 15 inches tall and weighs 28 pounds and we are guessing she is 4 to 5 years old. Sweet Pea is a tri; black, brown and white, and her coat will be beautiful once it grows back. She is now up to date on all of her vaccinations but tested heartworm positive so she will have to go thru treatment before she will be available for adoption. Sweet Pea is starved for attention and is so enjoying her days inside getting tons of attention. She is working on her housetraining and inside manners.
UPDATE: True to her name Sweet Pea is a sweetie. She has finished her heartworm treatment with flying colors and is ready for a new home. She is up to date on all her vaccinations, and is the only one of the shelties that tested as heartworm negative. UPDATE– Allie is super sweet and very affectionate. She is now house-trained and very good with the doggy-door. She is learning to walk on a leash. Since her coat is growing back her foster mom is working with her on grooming, Allie proclaims that she loves the brushing. Allie has her comfort zone but is learning there is a bigger world out there and is expanding that zone. She’s found that car rides are fun and taking walks isn’t as bad as it was when she first came in to rescue. Allie loves a good game of chase with the resident sheltie around the back yard.
